Galway, a vibrant City, is at the heart of the Wild Atlantic Way. Columbus set sail from Galway in 1492 in the hope of finding treasure & new territories for the King of Spain. The Spanish Arch is located on the banks of the River Corrib in Galway. In the West of Ireland you will see many dark haired men descended from Spanish sailors ship wrecked off the West Coast of Ireland in May 1583. The Habsburg, including the King of Spain, wanted to topple England’s Queen Elisabeth 1st & re-establish Catholicism in England. In May 1583, a massive Armada of some 130 ships departed Lisbon to invade but a non-seasonable storm scattered the fleet & blew many ships around Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way.
